I love it when the animals come to me…

Gray tree frog (Hyla versicolor, Hylidae) clinging to my window in search of insect prey. Photographed 07/22/2010 in Palmyra, Michigan.

Normally I have to hunt for the things I want to see, study, or photograph.  Some gray tree frogs have recently been making it easy for me.  At night they cling to my bathroom window, apparently seeking the insect prey that are attracted to the light.  If I watch them long enough, I can usually observe one eating an insect (most recent example:  a crane fly (Tipulidae) that was gobbled up).  I’ve heard the mating calls of the male gray tree frog for quite some time, so it’s nice to put a face with the sound.
