Snorkeling in Dry Tortugas National Park 1

I spent the last four days in southern Florida including a day trip to Dry Tortugas National Park.  I snorkeled there for about an hour before the abundance of great barracudas (Sphyraena barracuda, Sphyraenidae) started making me nervous.  There’s only one in this video, but at one point I found myself surrounded by five of them and they didn’t seem afraid of me.  One was even moving in for a closer look…or taste.  Also shown are rainbow parrotfish (Scarus guacamaia, Scaridae) and yellowtail snapper (Ocyurus chrysurus, Lutjanidae).  I would definitely like to return for several days of camping and snorkeling.  This is just a sample of what this amazing national park has to offer.  Recorded 04/10/2012.
